Cinco de Mayo: Where to go for the best Mexican-inspired ‘fiesta’ (updated)

It might not be as big of a celebration in Mexico, but here in the United States, Cinco de Mayo might as well be another American holiday. Contrary to popular belief, the day was intended to commemorate Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza and his army’s surprise victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862—it is not the official day of Mexican independence. Still, all around the nation, restaurants, bars and organizations take hold of the day as an opportunity to offer specials and host events.
