At about 10 p.m. Friday, BayFest reached a moment where it seemed to slow down. Or maybe it would be better to say it seemed to settle in, as thousands of patrons found what they had come for.
Journey, half an hour into its headlining set on the AT&T/Southern Ford Dealers Stage, regaled the night’s biggest crowd with an unhurried rendition of the ballad “Faithfully.” And then guitarist Neal Schon delivered his take on “The Star-Spangled Banner,” as elaborate as the famous version by Jimi Hendrix but distinctly different, more lush and languid.

A couple of thousand music fans braving the heat caught an “Outlaw Roadshow” at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater Thursday night as rock veterans Counting Crows capped a four-band ticket with a rock-solid 90-minute set.
